Marie Gossart

I perform and work as a poet.

Writing as painting, drawing sense, images. Writing to stop the curse of time. Tattooing the present. Creating an event. From which there is a before and an after.

I believe in the powers of the body as well as in the powers of the mind. This is why performing is so important to me. Creating through the body.

I believe, as an artist, that the sense of humanity, what makes us humans, vs animals or robots, is kind of endangered, becoming less and less valued, and even taken into consideration. This is why I am obsessed with words and the gesture of writing. These are genuine human functions not quite reproducible by Artificial Intelligence.

I want to offer the audience the vision of writing, of human creation, in action.This is why my performance project is called ACTIONWRITING#.

I love the genius of hazard, of incidents that occur during the creation process. I love that creating takes time, and I love not controlling the lapse of time. I love the power of the hand and the mind creating together, and putting in it in perspective with the fragility of the result.

I love imperfection. I love to leave a material trace in a world that is more and more virtual and ephemeral.

I love the idea that the creative energy that I believe all artists feel and hopefully transmit, is kind of eternal.

MANIFESTO 2018 ( french version)

Ecrire, c'est hurler sans bruit écrivait Marguerite Duras.

Quand j'écris sur la toile, je parle et je hurle aussi.Ce n'est pas ma main qui écrit, c'est tout mon corps, tout mon être.

On doit imaginer la concentration mentale que la répétition des mots, du geste impose.Les couleurs agissent comme une distraction éphémère mais apaisante, le corps et l'esprit sont en tension.

I want to keep on writing.

Cette phrase infinie résonne comme un mantra. C'est une prière d'éternité et aussi un acte de résistance. Pour une cause perdue d'avance. Il y a comme un engagement romantique et archaïque tout à la fois. Quand je fais AW je pense souvent aux signes laissés par les mains des premiers hommes dans les cavernes. Des traces cachées, secrètes, qui hurlent dans le silence.

Ces traces profondes, qui disent notre humanité, je les donne à voir. Je suis une messagère des temps anciens qui restent malgré tout les nôtres, encore pour quelques temps peut-être.

On me demande souvent ce que j'écris. Les traces laissées par les gestes pourtant précis de ma main sont illisibles. AW n'est pas tant fait pour être lu que pour être vu.

AW est un témoin, un don, un acte poétique pur.

Ecrire c'est hurler sans bruit. Avec AW j'ai le sentiment de faire entendre ma voix en la donnant à voir.

Sur un concerto de Francis Poulenc, c'est mon corps qui danse et ma voix intérieure qui chante. Les premiers hommes ressentaient probablement la même libération en se faisant témoin de leur présent.

C'est une autre sensation que j'éprouve en faisant AW, j'écris sur la toile comme pour tatouer le présent. Chaque toile correspond à une surface et un espace temps. Pour chacune, il y a un avant et un après.

L'interstice peut être assez court ou plus long, je grave le temps sur la toile.

Au moment des mots éphémères laissés chaque minute par milliard sur la grande toile, il y a là aussi comme une tentative héroïque, le besoin de redonner du poids à ce que nous vivons, échapper au piège de l'inconsistant.

AW, c'est comme tatouer le présent.

AW est la manifestation d'un engagement (I want); sa répétition ( keep on) la transforme en une sorte d'incantation. En elle se croisent et se réconcilient deux dimensions : rationnelle et chamanique.

CURRICULUM

Born in France on April the 28th 1969.

Until 1986, practices dance and gets familiar with various technical skills at the Beaux-Arts studios in Cambrai.

At 22 graduates from Sc-Po Paris and a master in communication, from then leads a career in advertising as a strategic planner in global communication agencies.

In 2006, leaves for Tokyo with her family and reconnects with poetry writing, both in French and in English.

In 2008, back in Paris, composes poems, lyrics and some novels. Conceptualizes artwork addressing the issue of materialization of meaning.

From 2011, starts developping her ACTIONWRITING# project, a series of performances which are literally putting the gesture of writing at work.

From 2012, various poetry publications in Revue le Pan Poétique des Muses and reading performances amongst which:
